But, overall, the drop-out rates were less than 50% which suggests that sufficient people were satisfied with the results achieved (even on a placebo) to continue in the trial. Rimonabant is a prototype of a new class of compounds designed to affect the endocannabinoid system. Because it is not exactly clear which neurotransmitters are affected to reduce appetite, the fact that a small percentage of participants reported mood changes remains slightly problematic. In general, the safety profile of Rimonabant appears favorable but, until longer term data becomes available, people should be slightly cautious in taking it for more than two years. Professor Van Gaal advises that real health benefits occur when you lose 10% of your body weight.
